What with everyone beginning to be more aware of how energy can be saved or conserved, now is the right time to move away from boiling your pasta in a large pot full of water. Of course, that’s how it has always been done. The following ways, however, are easier, quicker, and of course, more energy efficient.
Add 1.5 quarts of COLD water to a pan. Add the pasta to this cold water. Yes, cold. This is a new way of doing things. Season with salt. Simmer this and bring the water to a boil - with the pasta in it. It may take about 10 minutes for the water to boil. The pasta gets cooked and the water that is left is “starch-ier”. This can be used to add to your sauce.
With this revolutionary new method, you can get your pasta cooked quickly after about an hour and a half of prep. Soak your pasta in cold water for 90 minutes. Then take a pot of boiling water seasoned with salt. Pop the soaked pasta into the boiling water and it will be cooked within a minute!
In a pan, add garlic to oil and brown it for about 2-3 minutes. Make sure it is on low heat so it doesn't burn. Add some tomato sauce that has been thinned and sprinkle in the basil, grated carrot and season with salt. Cover this sauce and let it cook for 10 minutes on low. Add the pasta to the cooking sauce and cook again for 10 min. Stir gently while still on low heat. The pasta will absorb the extra liquid.
